thank you to dawnliner and fshe, must be new height then. The top is really shaping up now, the 4 sides spliting away from each other.

Well technically speaking it won't be much of a landmark compared to Burj Dubai or Taipei 101. However the "Victoria Harbor Gate" will certainly gain some fame around the world.

And it will be the tallest building in HK.

And why is Taipei 101 so much better than ICC? Because of the "stick" on top?

I don't think we can fully appreciate its incredible height until its topped out and fully clad in glass from top to bottom. Only then can we see it as a single, towering, seamless whole.

Trust me it'll be so much more impressive when its fully done... but surely not nearly as impressive as the views of HK island from the observation deck - and I'm sure the Symphony of Light will take on a whole new dimension from up there!

I dont think he is suggesting its a better, more iconic building per se. Its more he fact that tall buildings in Hong Kong are plentiful and the impact they have on the skyline is less dominant...i think this is what makes Hong Kong so special...its a complete sum of parts!

Yes. It is something called the "wow" factor which someone mentioned a hundred pages or more before.

For something like Burj Dubai, it has the "wow" factor because its taller than anything man has built, including radio masts.

For Taipei 101, it WAS the tallest building (not including masts), and gives a big wow factor by having an innovative (but in some eyes, ugly) design. Other than that, it was built in an earthquake zone. Thats another plus too.

The only major features ICC gives is the dragon tail, the glass parapet, and the slightly sloping roof. But the bonus is, it blends well with the rest of the city. (By forming the Victoria Harbour Gate)

this ''victoria gate'' may not be so impressive if the gov approves the construction of the highrises proposed to be built in front of IFC

What highrises in front of IFC?

Impossible. They'd have to reclaim new land which isn't going to happen.

Unless you're talking about the tamar reclamation which is to the side of IFC, and only then, there's only going to be a couple shortish buildings + a park.
