Oh, and thanks for answering my question GoSatta. Do you know floor the observation deck will be on, as the hotel occupies the top of the tower?

I don't know why, but this tower just does not look 480m tall from these pictures. it's a pretty fat tower though, that might have something to do with it

Also, its because of the nearby buildings as well, those buildings are quite tall and therefore, relative to them, the ICC doesn't look as tall.

Brilliant, thanks for that.. what a view that'll be from up there!

Oh and as for the 'it doesn't look 480ish metres' stuff again, this was discussed a little while back. It's simply because the surrounding buildings of Union Square are deceptively huge (eg The Harbourside is 251m!), they look shorter than they actually are because of their width, so likewise make ICC seem shorter too. It's a vast building

the ICC Tower is approx 63m wide and slightly tapers to 56m at top.
the former WTC were also 63m wide but 70m shorter.

It's the only remnant of what used to be a big KCR train station, and as mentioned, is located close to Star Ferry

hurts my eyes looking at this for long. haha

but the design was supposed to be that the base width is the same at the roof width init?

Yes, the WTC towers never changed thickness as they went up. If you saw them in person, you know just how tall and massive they looked. If you are talking about ICC, I think the design was always the same in terms of width. I may be misremembering, but the early renderings also showed a flaring out at the bottom and a slight slope inward at the top. The one thing they have changed is the separation between sections of cladding - there are three sections, and you can see how there is a clear break between the top and middle thirds, but originally there was also a separation between the middle and lower thirds. For some reason they've decided to meld them together. I suppose it makes it look taller but eliminating a horizontal line. Oh, and they shortened the parapets. Fear that wind will snap them off?
