Hong Kong's settlers must have seen the surrounding scenery, hills and water and thought that they had found paradise on earth. Let's build a city here!

The occupants in the lower half of the building would still hear the construction noise on the top of the tower init?

Very true! If only the climate would cooperate.

well... when the British stopped at HKI for the first time in the mid-1830s, the General called the island just a "barren rock." And it was a big controversy in the parliament on why forced the Qing's Dynasty to cede the useless "barren rock" instead of other areas like Canton (Guangzhou).

Sure. It's called Braimer hill. You need to take a taxi to Braimer hill road. Then at the height of the bus stop you need to take the path next to a building towards the hill. From that point you need to turn right and walk up towards HK. At one point you will reach steps which you will need to climb. Not the narrow ones which are generally to climb forbidden though.

If you want to you can reach a vantage point on the highest hill where you have a fully unobstructed view. You have to walk through a very narrow path to do so. I advice to bring a flashlight up the hill. It gets pretty dark and there are no lights.
