Nice pics, thanks.

^ It's not a new term, it's (Hong Kong, along with many major cities) been called that in Chinese for a long time

Oh... well I don't speak Chinese. But they ARE right, that's exactly what I'd call it.

I believe the more common variant is Concrete Jungle. And many cities have been called by that name.

But yes, that is a cool picture of a concrete forest bounded by a real forest.

Yeah I was gonna say, I've heard cities called Concrete Jungles many times, but never Concrete Forest.

Just came off as funny to me kind of...

I'm sorry but this building just doesn't look like it has 66 floors. I'm aware they skip the 4 floors in HK - 4, 14, 24, 34, 44, 54, 64 are thus not in ICC. So, at most it's only actually 59 floors. Have they skipped any other floors in this building?

(It's a great-looking building - powerful design. I just think that floor-skipping business is real cheap).

That's why we at this forum (and most logical thinkers) measure height in metres and feet, not floors.

Floor heights and floor counts change all the time. The WTC had 110 floors and 2IFC has 88. They both reach to almost the same roof height.

In Chinese, the word for 4 sounds the same as a bad word (I don't know Mandarin, but I'm pretty sure the word is "die"), so the names of the floors sound like dire curses and no one would want to say they worked or lived there. Certain floors are even worse than others, depending on what the word for the other numbers sound like (for instance suppose that 54 sounded like the words for "easy to die" (that's just a fake example I don't actually know Mandarin so I'm just making up a fake example)).

Yes, 4 is phonetically similar to the word "to die" in Chinese (as well as Japanese for that matter)

Some of the numbers containing four also have bad connotations:

14 (Will certainly die)
24 (Easy to die)
34 (Life and death, hanging between)
44 (idk about this one)
54 (Sounds like won't die)
64 (haha, I made this one up, but it sounds like 'boiled to death')
74 (idk this one either)
84 (get so wealthy you die)

Some of these were meant to be humorous, b/c I'm not aware of what they're supposed to be. Help?

Then it's condolence for the 4 number. So the 4 containing numbers is skipped and the level is reduced or it still counted but the level isn't used?

For example, some floors are actually labelled a and b on 2 IFC, and refuge floors are separately labelled. Hence, using the highest floor number as a gauge is very inaccurate.

surely 484m isnt a very clever number to build a skyscraper then.. lol i always thought.. why not just make it 500m... sounds alot more impressive and it cant coast THAT much to go up another 16m.. plus then u loose all the "die" bits of the 4's or watever...
