The level of ICC inside core is equal to the roof of kowloon station Tower 20.

Sun Hung Kai Real Estate Agency Executive Director Victor Lui (left) and KPF Principal Paul Katz explain the master plan and design concept for the Kowloon Station Development

SHKP and top architects KPF collaborating on
Hong Kong landmarks ICC and The Cullinan

11 June 2007

Sun Hung Kai Properties' (SHKP) Airport Express Kowloon Station Development Packages 5, 6 & is the largest project in Hong Kong in recent years. The future business district will include the world's third-tallest building International Commerce Centre (ICC), the city's tallest residential project The Cullinan, HarbourView Place serviced suites, hotels operated by Ritz-Carlton Hotel and W Hotel and the million-plus-square-foot Elements mall. SHKP is partnering with noted international architects Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates (KPF) to develop Hong Kong's newest landmark.

Globally Acclaimed Designs

The KPF firm is known for its modern designs that respond to community, context and environment, creating special styles that incorporate aesthetics and functionality. Their projects include Shanghai World Financial Centre, Roppongi Hills in Tokyo, the World Bank headquarters, Buffalo Niagara International Airport, IBM headquarters and Mohegan Sun Project Sunburst in Uncasville in the United States. Tokyo's Roppongi Hills is widely recognized as a classic example of modern architecture.

Building a Landmark

Sun Hung Kai Real Estate Agency Executive Director Victor Lui said, "KPF's architectural designs and SHKP's experience in developing large-scale projects makes a great combination. We are confident that the 118-storey ICC at 490 metres and the two residential towers in The Cullinan at 270 metres will draw attention from around the world.

Both ICC and The Cullinan are being built to the highest standards. They will each have glass-curtain walls, and superior materials and facilities. There is also the prime location in a future centre of international business."

Stunning Architecture

KPF Principal Paul Katz said, "SHKP is investing an enormous sum in Airport Express Kowloon Station Packages 5 to 7. ICC as the focus of the development, and we are very proud to have come up with what we think is a stunning design for the world's third-tallest building.

The Kowloon Station Development is in a prime spot with spectacular views of Victoria Harbour, so we used clean lines and reflective surfaces to accentuate the water. ICC and Two ifc across the harbour will form a Victoria Harbour Gateway and Hong Kong's latest landmark."

Kowloon Station Development

The Cullinan in Package 6 will have two skyscrapers of approximately 270 metres, which will make it the tallest residential building in Hong Kong. The waterfront site will give The Cullinan boundless views of the harbour, and its glass-curtain walls will harmonize with the overall design of the Kowloon Station Development and ICC.

ICC in Package 7 of Airport Express Development will rise to 118 stories or 490m. It will be the tallest building in Hong Kong and the third tallest in the world (in terms of usable floors). Its height, design and advanced facilities will reinforce Hong Kong's position as an international hub for commerce, trade and finance. Together, The Cullinan, HarbourView Place, Elements shopping mall and the six-star Ritz-Carlton and W Hotel will create a unique metropolitan scene above Kowloon Station.

Those photographs of HK are incredible. Jawdropping.

And the latest construction updates are excellent as well.

Good update. It looks quite fat. I always seem to think that construction is slow, but actually must remind myself of the scale of this building. It's progressing well.
