When I saw the pictures of the window washers, all I could think of was the Blues Brothers, with the SWAT team rappelling down City Hall / County Building "Hut! Hut! Hut! Hut!"
HarryC, there is a Get a Grip Cycles in the West Loop, too, if that's any closer for you.

This building is a real quandary for me: I absolutely adore the design, which in form is like a less excitable Sears Tower - all elegant curves and a more refined stepping to the top of the building - only with the all-glass facade making it unquestionably contemporary, but still faithful to context, and as in love with the city's heritage as the Spire is determined to radicalise it.

The problem is Trump. What a loathsome human being. Of course, loathsome human beings may be at the head of every major company in the world, and they may be the guiding hand behind every great building ever built, but he is so insistant about putting his name, face and toupe out there that you cannot turn a blind eye. Look at the marketing website. Not only does the name pop up in every place (and let's face it, the word Trump evokes not so much class and sophistication as it does schoolboys giggling at flatulence), but so for some unknown reason does his wife! Well now I'm sold. It's clear that you cannot buy into the building (gorgeous floorplans btw) without buying into the man, and even if I had the resources to do so, the image of him pocketing my cash and smirking at how much I'd forked out for a little piece of him would prevent me signing the contract.

Best case scenario:

Day x - building completed and keys handed over to new tenants

Day x+1 - Trump goes spectacularly bust while trying to build a golf course inside a volcano inside a golf course; man and trophy wife live forgotten in penury.

Day x+2 - Building renamed to something classy, e.g. its street address.

I agree, I'd love to see the name on this changed someday....

How about RiverCurve Tower?

Sadly, I fear Trump will stick. Thankfully, it looks like it will be far from a defining point on the city's skyline.

Sadly??? What the hell are you talking about. I was never a fan of The Donald but he deserves everything for building this masterpiece in Chicago...Including having his name stamped all over this project. I'm very proud that he chose Chicago!!!

Good luck with that. Even the new Children's Hospital can't get a heliport thanks to the NIMBY power of SOAR.

They have a laundry list of demands from the hospital in order to back down and allow a heliport that would save lives and only be used every other day. On the list were things like four dozen new countdown crosswalk signals for their neighborhood, a new parking garage for the area, two dozen new traffic control agents paid for by the hospital, and a bunch of other non-helicopter non-noise-related civic improvements.

I don't know anyone on SOAR and I've never spoken to anyone who is. But the more I read about them and their demands the more they seem like some kind of mob outfit -- whenever there's construction they want to know what's in it for them and will block progress until they get what they want.

They have a commodity- their neighborhood and it's location- and they use that as leverage to try to get something out of developers. You wouldn't try to do the same thing in their position?

This image was originally posted on SSC by "Wickedestcity"

I have added Waterview, Trump, the spire the Arquitectonica building, aqua, and Waldorf=Astorria as well as increased the height of bcbs.

It wasn't until I was increasing the height of bcbs that I realized 340 on the park was missing - too late - sorry.
