Why is the mechanical floor cladded like that btw?

Ventilation. You don't want that equipment to overheat.

This, along with the Spire, and Waterview, will make Chicago probably the BEST Skyscraper City in the US. Not sure about the world, but it definitely is number 1 in the US.

Those views of the city from Trump in the video are just amazing. Whoever gets to work there must be lucky. Truly is one of the great spots in this great city.

I really like these small vertical setbacks, they are a nice addition to this already great design !

Sunday was a crummy day for photos. Trump is looking massive. View East on Kinzie 2/3/08:

I've never seen fog this thick downtown. Visibility is maybe a half a block.

So yeah, New York is no loser in the game, but I still think Chicago is better. Once again, in my opinion.
I wouldn't go as far as saying Chicago's skyline is 'better', but the lesser density and number of buildings allows a stronger 'natural' highlight of each supertall, thus making it perhaps more impactfull according to the angle you take.

There's a feeling in Chicago that those towers are actually 'living'... Not that there just built there to look good. Not that NY is anywhere near as atrocious as Dubai, God NO! I don't know if you guys see what I mean...
Less is more in a way.

I wanted to do a side by side to show how think the fog was last night, taken from the same spot.

A small animation with photos taken from about the same angles. Thanks to all forumers who posted these photos.

Note: If you don't see anything, refresh the page (Press F5) until the animation appears. I think the problem comes from the site hosting the image but I didn't find better that can host files greater than 5M.

I just got back from dinner. It was awesome. I have the day off tomorrow so I'll be editing and posting pictures all day. Here is one I took before I left.

Opening night, 16 Trump Tower Chicago

It was a cold, windy, snowy night...

Welcome...

The Lobby...

On our way up...my gf thinks I'm crazy....

The wine cellar...

Crystal...

The dinning room...

It was my birthday dinner...

The bar at 16...

Quite a view...

Someday...

American fine dining is the best way I can put the description of the menu. There is a tasting menu, ranging from $85-150. I didnt really look at the offerings on that because I knew I wasn't going to get it. My brother's girlfriend and I both had the fillet ($38), my brother had the trio of pork ($34) and my girlfriend had the lamb loin ($41)....I actually though the lamb was the best, and my fillet was disappointingly not that great, but still good.

The desserts were also not great. I had a praline and banana number with some lime ice cream. 6.5/10.

Overall the tab was $305 for the 4 of us, before tip. We each had a drink, entree, and dessert.

The service was excellent. Overall it was very expensive and the food did not blow me away, but to be there on opening night when they are still pouring concrete on the upper floors was really cool. I will go back for a cheese platter they had ($14 per person) that my girlfriend really wanted to try.
