Local company helping to build nation's second-tallest structure

EDGEWATER -- With its boat orders slumping, a small fiberglass plant is staying afloat by helping developer Donald Trump build the second tallest structure in America.

Porta Fiberglass is making the fiberglass skin for a 192-foot steel spire that will be placed atop the 92-story Tower Chicago later this year. When completed, the Trump edifice will be the second-tallest structure in Chicago (and the rest of the nation) at 1,362 feet, just 90 feet shorter than the Sears Tower. More here: http://www.news-journalonline.com/Ne...IZ01052608.htm
looks like spire on trump will become 5th highest slef-supported structure in Nth america on completion.

Tell me someone saved the Jesus Saves sign! I cannot believe they tore that thing down. Figures the year after I graduate from Columbia, they get rid of that place. Who will ask all the freshies for money/ if they want to be saved?

Trump looks amazing though. I was so skeptical for so long on the design, but I just cannot deny how amazing it looks any longer. Especially along the river. Wow is that slick.

Somebody mentioned 92 floors before.
The thread even said 92 for a few days.
It has something to do with the mechanical floors.

Is that counting from grade ( lower Kinzie/Wabash ) or from the street level ?

I don't think there was a design change that resulted in adding floors. All that happened is that a desision was made (by CTBUH or Emporis?) to count the mezzanine levels in the official floor count, thereby giving the tower 96 floors. I first heard this reported by Bvictor1. What I don't know though is where these mezzanine levels are located within the building and if they are mechanical floors.

there ar 92 actual floors with 4 mezzanine.
its currently up to lev85, so another 7 floors or 40m before roof top out.
