i disagree, imagine the Empire State, Chrysler building or even the Burj Dubai (in the renders) without the spire. i think it's an aesthetical element use to suggest height and yes, after that is used just to

Yikes, it was just a few months ago when it seemed to be taking forever and they were only on the middle section. They really did take off. Congrats to Chicago, I've always liked this tower.

I almost had a heart attack when I see this building was being delayed. Good to see it coming togather.

The Spire will almost be twice the size of this tower, which is the size of the ESB in NY.

Chicago is so much more massive right now than New York, that is until the WTC is built.

Have you never been to nyc, there's like 13 million people give or take living there. Chi town only has about 3 million. And as of right now, we have the same amont of supertalls four. Not a lot but enough right now for both city.

City vs. city crap

Okay, this is really off-topic dumb city vs. city crap, but let's just get the facts right:

NYC population 8.3 million (metro 18.8 million)
Chi population 2.8 million (metro 9.8 million)

NYC has four supertalls, Chicago has five (6 if we include Trump).

But who cares? Two awesome cities. This thread is about the Trump Tower in Chicago, so let's talk about that.

To stay in topic, I must say that the location of TT for the Chicago skyline is awesome. The pic from Sears is great and clearly shows this point. I usually don't like spires but in this case it might actually be really good.

What's funny is that when those old skyscrapers were built, the people probably thought those buildings were huge, if only they were alive today.

I like spires when they compliment the architecture of the tower (i.e. Empire State, Chrysler, etc.) -- I wonder how the Sears Tower would look without the double spires (antennas)

As for the Trump Tower Chicago, I like this one - in this case, the spire compliments the architectural style of the tower.
