http://featuresblogs.chicagotribune....er-look-a.html

A closer look at the Trump International Hotel & Tower Chicago spire

Scheduled installation dates: Nov. 1 and 2

Height: 227 feet, 8 inches

Materials: Three-legged steel sections clad in painted fiberglass

Number of sections: 13

Weight of sections: Up to 20,000 pounds each

Height of sections: Most are 20-feet tall. Some are 15-feet tall

Width of sections: The sections taper as the spire rises, to 4 feet from 10 feet.

Color: A shiny gray, in contrast to the white antennas of Sears Tower.

Construction method:

Installation Services Inc. of Genoa, located about 65 miles northwest of Chicago, will install the spire, which is similar in construction to the broadcast antennas of Sears Tower but will not be used for broadcasting. Trucks will deliver the sections to the Trump skycraper's riverfront site. A construction crane will lift them to the roof, one at a time. According to Installation Services president Ronald Romano, the crane will set the first 92 feet of the spire into place. Then a helicopter will lift the final pieces.

SOURCES: INSTALLATION SERVICES INC., THE TRUMP ORGANIZATION; SKIDMORE, OWINGS & MERILL

hmm, thats pretty cool how they do that. thankfully they aren't doing it the way I originally thought they would by having it all connected at once and just putting it on by helicopter as one piece

@ 415m, it will be 4th tallest bldg in USA? or 2nd if you count spire as height!

Sears tower-442m (ant-527m)
JHC-343m (ant-457m)
ESB-381m (ant-449m)
Trump tower-357m (415m)

They count spires (as arhitectural elements), but not antenas. So it will be second after Sears Tower

can you imagine Sears, JHC and ESB without there anteneas? they should be included as there height because they are intricate to there design even though they are used as commmunications.

I wonder what he's doing with the money he's making from the hotel. rooms START at like $475 a night

http://www.newser.com/story/41152/tr...ago-tower.html

Trump in Trouble on Chicago Tower

(Newser) – Donald Trump's 92-story Chicago tower has been hit by a triple-whammy of the credit crunch, the housing slump, and sagging retail sales, making foreclosure a real danger, the Wall Street Journal reports. Trump, who developed the tower without partners, owes $1 billion on the project but has so far sold only $600 million in condo units and condo-hotel units. He's looking for an extension on a key loan due this Saturday.

Trump says the building—the tallest built in the US since the Sears Tower—can still be a success if he manages to sell the unsold units, which he estimates could be worth $475 million. "It could turn out to be a successful development depending on what happens in the market over the next two years," he tells the Journal. "The job is on time and on budget, and it's a beautiful job and will become an icon of the Chicago skyline."

new update video online

Hiya friends and Spirefans,

even tho the news for this project arent the best I still made a new update video to include my vacation pictures and the newest of Harry and the cool look down by vexxed82 of SSP:

http://de.youtube.com/watch?v=AC65LXedVF4

Music: Paul van Dyk - Castaway (Jon Obir Remix)

Enjoy!

I will do my videos for the Spire monthly now instead of 2weekly as long as Harry and others still keep us updated with nice pictures of the site and the project isnt moved from on hold to canceled.

PS: Maybe a mod can move this to the Spire thread. thank you
