Why Chicago have too many white and gray buildings? It is somewhat unattractive for Chicago.

That's why they call it a concrete jungle.

Generally, that is the American style, a leftover back from the beginning of the 20th century.

Actually I was talking about post-modern buildings that were built in 50s to present-day in that picture. I think early 20th century buildings are beautiful and classic.

On the other hand chicago has some famous and iconic black buildings such as John Hancock center and sears tower. New buildings comming through are blue and you wont be seeing much more of white colours.

Looking at the pic. above and seeing how enormous Trump Tower really is I wonder what’s up with the small spire, and TT is not the only example. Does it have any functionality, cause it really is a strange design idea.

I think he means the width of the spire. The width don't look that thick compared to its overall height.

Does anyone know how full this building is yet? I was under the impression that this was a huge gamble for trump depending heavily on occupancy to pay off construction loans.

yeah he's having problems. Last number I heard was 75% sold, but resellers are now offering for less than what Trump is offering, so he cant sell his remaining inventory.

Many of the buildings in this picture were built in the 80's and 90's. During that time, the most efficient (cheapest) way to build was with concrete. No curtain walls, no cladding, just build the entire structure with concrete, plop in the windows, and slap on some paint. The Loop high rises of that time look noticeably better, but that's because corporations pay more attention (and money) to aesthetics than residential developers, who are just looking to make a quick buck. Unfortunately, this is a sad aspect of River North/Streeterville's legacy.

Many are painted beige because that color requires the least amount of cleaning. The more recent residential towers certainly look much better than their 20-year-old neighbors, but they are still considerably outnumbered.
