Spire installation maybe on 12-20-08

I recieved a comment to my Trump Spire Installation attempt video from a guy who said "It will be done this weekend, 12-20-08". Anyone knows maybe if his claim is true? In his profile it says Construction Helicopter Pilot. Thanx guys.

Early weather forecast says snow in the afternoon or evenings on saturday. With temps in the teens and twenties. Hopefully they can get some pieces in place early saturday.

With so many variables, I wonder which will T/O first, Burj Dubai or Trump Tower?

I was on my bicycle on a brige ( Lower Lake Shore Drive ) boats break through the ice, never that thick on the Chicago river. The snow is covering the ice.

With further reflection after touring the building’s units and common areas, I am very surprised that there has been so much value engineering on this project. The owners were not offered any options and what they received is questionable to say the least. Some include:

• Bulky & noisy in-wall HVAC units & electric baseboard heat at the windows
• Kohler fixtures throughout, what could be considered mid-grade for this building
• Low-grade hardwood flooring – knots everywhere, I felt like I was walking in a country house
• Cheap window hardware, that will most likely fatigue after years of pressure changes
• Questionable detailing throughout the exterior and common areas

• the footprint overwhelms the site especially the massive base along the river

• the glass used for the curtain wall is not the first and best choice

• the shape once again seeks to evoke the designs of past local icons

• The exaggerated top tower appears to stretch itself too much – trying to claim the 2nd tallest building title (with spire included)…

I am trying to find a way to get over my ‘issues’ with this building, it will be here for a while…

^ Well, yes - although the setbacks reference the adjacent IBM & Wrigley. But no overt historicism like Adrian Smith's earlier AT&T & NBC towers.

Here is NBC, with Trump to the center left:

I haven't been inside the tower yet to see the interior fit & finish, but I'm not surprised if it doesn't match the price point. It strikes me as overpriced for the market, excepting that some units have unobstructable riverfront views.

I agree with you about the glass being a let-down, although it could have been so much worse. Just look at LSE. As for the proportions, I'm waiting for the spire to go up. From some angles, and especially from S Wabash looking North, it has an amazing verticality - almost unreal-looking.

But I disagree with you about the exterior public spaces, at least as they are shaping up. They seem generous. But they aren't complete yet.

Overall, I'd say that Trump is a good tower, maybe even a very good tower, but not a great tower; it has some pretty stiff competition in Chicago for "great" status, including its immediate neighbors. But we're talking The Donald here - Mr. Bling - so I'm relieved that it is so not-bad.
