It has seriously outgrown its neighbour One IBM Plaza. That's the black tower measuring 1*4*9 which inspired The Object in 2001 a space oddysey.

It can compete with Sears - but what are those strange new spikes on the Sears Tower?

Each large antenna has 2 smaller ones attached to it. They may only be for structural support, or they may actually be functional antennas. Not really sure, but they've been there for years. That photo above really highlights them, but they're not quite as prominent in person, or during the day.

Definitely not for structural support... They are all broadcasting stations sending out dozens of frequencies. If the antennas counted as structural support it would make the tower 1,730f while instead the roof is 1,450f. So just really freaking big antennas. I hope when Trump tower finishes they display the spire with some colorful lights and kinda go with the current theme of supertalls in Chicago, minus Aon.

The four smaller antennas are for HDTV broadcasting and were added sometime since 2000.

Is the tower complete? The first pic from Frank Costello on page 293 is just beautiful!

The spire has to be cladded, the plaza (street level) on one side of the building is still under construction, and I'd imagine there's some interior work still going on in the condos.

The Trump Hotel in the bottom portion of the tower has been open with full amenities for a while now.

Definitely different antennae from when I was there in the mid 1980s.
