How big is Chicago? By the numbers:

The "true" downtown (the Loop) is less than 1 square mile. More like 2/3rds of a square mile. Walking across it in any direction takes about 10 minutes, max. If you include the majority of mid to high-rise, mainly-commercial buildings (let's say...Polk to Chicago, Colombus to the Kennedy), you end up with about 1.3 square miles. It's about a mile and a half from the Sears to the Hancock, and they pretty much anchor the majority of the 'main' skyline that most people think of.

I suppose that's not utterly huge, compared to New York. It's 5 miles just from Battery Park to the southern edge of Central Park, which is about 10 square miles. So compared to NY, Chicago is definitely smaller. That's a good thing in my case...on a Friday after work, I can walk to any downtown bar in 15 minutes or less!

That's by far the stupidest design feature of a new world-class building I've ever heard of! That's going to be really ugly, it means anyone afraid of heights can't work in the building, because there isn't any office space near the ground, and what happens if cars go out of popularity? I'm not talking about in the next ten or twenty or fifty years, but I'm sure Trump is planning on having this thing around for a while.
Is it a serious message or just a joke?

1) Anyone who is afraid of heights? You needn't sit right to a window! Many people who are afraid of heights just avoid outdoor standings, not the indoor! By the way, there aren't so many people,. having this problem!
2) Do you really think cars will ever go out of populartiy the next 100 years and more? When this case, which is very unlikely, really occur, you will have somehting else you can park on such a parking slot!

Or simplier even: they'll just turn those floors into inhabitable levels.

Although I do wonder why those first levels are car parks? Would the appartements' owners be the ones who asked for it, just like they asked for the height of the building not to exeed a certain limit?

Anyway you look at it the Trump Tower is still gonna be one fine addition to the Chicago skyline. It's amazing just how different it looks from other angles.
