Nope, I'm afraid that dent is completely unrepairable - tear the whole thing down and start again!

I noticed that dent too. I knew someone had to mention it! funny stuff. The column does look great in person, and will look awesome lined up on the river.

The finish on the metallic alpolic columns looks cool. Sort of a matt finish. Nice. Will add to the high-tech look of the overall building.

Woah!

Thanks Diggs. I was trying to figure out what that picture reminded me of. I know the Flatiron building, but for some reason it wasn't coming to me. It does look, from that angle at least, like the Flatiron mixed with a kind of space age twist. That just makes me like this building even more.

Amazing pic

But I do not see the super close relation to the Flatiron building that many talk about. I have walked the sight and it does not, to me at least, have the tactile feel of the true Flatiron; Especially at street level.

To me the site was not limited to the shape by the angles of the streets as much as the original, perhaps it was a genuflection to the general shape of the building instead.

The Trump tower did not need to mould to that shape out of necessity, sharp angles could have worked just as well in my opinion. Only SOM really knows what was the driving factor was in choosing the design curve that was chosen.

ISTR reading several articles that said that SOM put the curves into the structure after wind-tunnel testing it to reduce its wind loads.
