Part of the hotel will be opening this December.

The building will be topped out sometime mid-2008

Total completion is scheduled for 2009

I'm assume you're speaking of this photo:

If so, the structure on the left is the Equitable Building (401 N. Michigan Avenue)

If you're talking about virtually any other building, it's the IBM Plaza. Look it up on Wikipedia.

Nope -- that's the Tribune Tower (at the far right), which is where both the Chicago Tribune is published and where super-station WGN is broadcast. It's actually a world-famous building, I'm surprised anyone on a skyscraper website would not recognize it.

Really? would be odd to be in a hotel with a building this size being built above you. Still, I guess everything goes up external hoists and cranes, but what about all the internal work men going to and fro?

That's the IBM building, better visible in the image above.

Well, the nearby BCBS building will also remain occupied during its now U/C vertical expansion, so that's not too unusual.

I assume that most of the routine man and material flow, including concrete pumping and delivering the cladding pieces, between street level and the work site upstairs will be via otherwise not-yet-usable elevator and utility shafts.
