A sunset dinner to remember at Bagan Lalang
By CHARLES FERNANDEZ

Colourful: The 24 Chinese Drums performance

THE Bagan Lalang beach on the Sepang Goldcoast, the premier eco-friendly sea and coastal integrated resort development, was the perfect venue for dinner for more than 30 dignitaries.

The ambassadors and High Commissioners enjoyed a simple premier sunset dinner at the beach themed “Touch of the Orient”

And true to its theme, the special sunset gathering was held in conjunction with the Chinese New Year and to showcase the beauty of the Qipao – a gown that has its origin in Shanghai, China.

Dazzling display: Agatha CW Lee of Yuan Academy of Jewel and Art showing some jewellery to (from left) Maria Koeck-Thoby, Amelia Petra, wife of the Romanian ambassador and Romanian ambassador Petru Petra.

The Sepang Goldcoast employees and entertainers, who were dressed in the Qipao, added elegance to the dinner.

The guests were treated to a lion dance, 24 Chinese drums performance and a lively Chinese classical orchestra.

“I have never seen a performance like this before. It is beautiful, especially when it is performed on a beach against a sunset,’’ an ambassador’s wife said.

There was also a Qipao fashion show by Alvin Tay, a jewellery showcase and art display featuring two Malaysian renowned artistes, Puan Sri Catherina Lee and Philip Wong.

The other highlights of the evening included Chinese traditional art cultures such as Dough Doll Art, Chinese Calligraphy, Dragon Bread Candy, Maltose Lollipop and Ting Ting Candy.

Selangor executive councillor for Tourism, Consumer Affairs and Environment, Elizabeth Wong was the special guest.

The water ll never get clear here. The location is in the bay itself, waves n the currents too small to wash the sand, silt naturally. It ll be forever murky.

well, take Club Med Cherating as example; the beach is just a normal beach as we see along the east coast.

Pulau Perhentian and Redang got the Malaysia's most beautiful beach, but why there's no any international/prestige resorts?

Kuta beach in Bali is just 'normal' but why they are so famous...??

Pangkor Laut doesn't have a wonderful beach yet they have a private luxury hotel.

...........answer; marketing.

Sepang Gold Coast a gold mine for tourism
By NG CHENG YEE

Given its strategic location, the Sepang Gold Coast has all the advantages to become an iconic landmark of resort living that attracts visitors from all over the world.

Transport Minister Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat said it was just a fishing village fronting the Straits of Malacca but its developer saw its potential to be a tourist attraction.

“I must commend the foresight of the developer for choosing this location.

Golden prospects: Ong (second from left) commenting on the Sepang Gold Coast project as he views a model of the development. With him are (from left) Idris, exacutive chairman/CEO of Sepang Gold Coast Yanki Regan and Ho.

“I believe the Sepang Gold Coast will eventually become a renowned tourist destination,” he said at the media appreciation night organised by Sepang Gold Coast and Malaysia Airlines in Sepang on Wednesday.

In his speech, Sepang Gold Coast Sdn Bhd president Ho Hock Seng said Sepang Gold Coast was designated by the Selangor government as a key and strategic component of a new Klang Valley.

“In response to the growing congestion in the Klang Valley, the Selangor government has drawn up plans to transform this southern area into the second Klang Valley,” Ho said.

He said the company’s vision was to transform the coastal region into an eco-friendly international destination embracing the rich culture of a global village.

Also present at the event were Malaysia Airlines managing director and chief executive officer Datuk Seri Idris Jala and The Star group chief editor Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai.

RM2mil to beautify Bagan Lalang beachfront
CHARLES FERNANDEZ at the Sepang Municipal Council Full Board meeting

THE Tourism Ministry has allocated RM2mil for the beautification of the Bagan Lalang beachfront in Sepang.

Council president Azizan Mohd Sidin said the tender had been awarded and work was expected to start early next month and would be completed by the end of the year.

Replying to a question from councillor Lau Weng Chan, Azizan said the beautification programme came in the wake of problems faced by picnickers who had complained of lack of proper facilities at the beachfront.

Azizan said the ambitious RM3bil Sepang Goldcoast Resort in Bagan Lalang had been touted as the biggest tourim project in Selangor and a world-class destination, therefore the Bagan Lalang beach should also be upgraded accordingly.

He said apart from the beach upgrading, the allocation would also provide other facilities such as a surau, a jogging track, more parking bays, permanent camping sites and other facilities that complement beachfront requirements.

To another question, Azizan said he would have a meeting with the resort developers to look into the possibility of encouraging more picnickers to the area.

“We are looking into promoting bus services to the area, maybe three trips a day — morning, mid-day and evening,’’ he added.

Azizan said weekend pickickers had also increased as compared with previous years because of the efforts taken by the council to improve the facilities in the area.
