The first panaroma is awsome, the city has potential to grow a skyline like hk with similar setting, what they need is a dozen supertall

Shantou is a nice city but it should nuke the European old town, which is probably the nastiest urban area in all China. I'm sure they'll demolish it sooner or later, then build a nice CBD from its ashes

What is the point to demolish the old neighborhood? Those concrete highrises can be built elsewhere while these Chinese old towns are preserved.

That isn't true. Many Chinese cities have little to do with any other. You wont find such diversity in many countries.

Well, Korea less than Japan, but Kyoto for example was untouched by WW II, acres and acres of beautiful old wooden houses, now there are just a few streets left. Sure, it takes money to maintain Venice, for example, but that has paid for itself a hundred times over already...
I don`t travel to China to see this.

You see only a slum, but i see a possible second Macao.

I see a decadent town built by invaders where they could build a nice CBD full of world class highrises

Its so sad to see the old houses getting demolished. They just need renovation.

I don't know, New York, Paris, I like both, however China has too many people, it's really hard for her to be an Europe, But it seems OK to keep one or two... I would rather keep ones which has typical Chinese culture inside... Like Fenghuang, Pingyao...

Cities like this? Too many in Europe, 100 times better, if spent little money to restore it... OK, but more money even than building excellent glassy highrise, I will choose the latter...

Maybe one day, europeans will feel boring about their old house, and want to go to China and enjoy highrise forest like in another world... Who knows? I doubt HK has many these kinda place...
