Just like in London St. Mary Axe became the Gherkin and the London Bridge Tower became the Shard, so too I am sure these towers will be given a name by it's observers that will become more resonant than the official one. Tentacles works for me!

Looking at the whole project, that looks like a huge collection of 40-60 storey buildings there. In most cities, this whole project would be the ENTIRE DOWNTOWN CITY AREA, developing over a few decades as it grew commercially.

Only in Dubai would the equivalent of a whole new city be proposed and built as one single project, and it's all just one neighbourhood of one entire city in total.

I would love to look at Dubai from a great height and distance in about 2030, it'll be the largest most impressive collection of buildings on the planet!

I heard that ARUP (don't know which of their offices) is doing the structural enginering work and Eversendai (the company behind the steel structure of Burj Dubai, Taipei101 and Petronas Towers) is being involved and most propably will get the job.

Pictures like this got me thinking. Dubai really isn't worried about global warming raising the sea levels, are they?

Oh, I just assumed all that water was connected to the sea. But still. Look at all the Palm and World islands.

are they really going to build them, I am not even sure they can be built. Kinda scary just by looking at them, let alone sitting in one of those towers.

Without a doubt one of the most visually stunning designs Dubai has spawned.

of course it is possible to build them . the core has no curving....it is going straight to the top, only the floors are out of the middle

Water is connected to the sea via a nearby natural creek going deep inland, but the internal waterways will be artificially made. However the Dubai Opera House will seat in an natural island on the creek.

As for the Palms and the World, they are build 4 meters (12ft) above the sea level so they are actually higher then all the coastal area of Dubai where hundred thousands already live.

Maybe the architects of Atlanta's TVS are fan of Calavadra's work in general and CS in particular.
