Barwa launches QR3.5bn project

The new commercial street project launched by Barwa.
Doha ? Barwa Real Estate Company announced yesterday the launch of its newest real estate project in Qatar, the Ain Khalid Commercial Development, incorporating integrated facilities including administrative malls, housing apartments, retail outlets, exhibitions, and restaurants at a cost of QR3.5bn.

Ghanim bin Saad Al Saad, Chairman and Managing Director of Barwa Real Estate Company, said that the project is to be located in Msemeer area starting from the crossroad of Msemeer Road and Industrial road that extends 11km the length of Msemeer Road and the Eastern Road in the Industrial area.

The project is to expected to be commissioned by the year 2009, a news release issued by the company said yesterday. ?Barwa invested greatly in creating a unique design for the project so that it reflects a distinctive and unique Qatari masterpiece in its design and construction. The official approval of this project also reflects the trust that the Government of Qatar has given our company,? said Al Saad.

He also pointed out that the promising opportunities made available as a result of the dynamic real estate investment climate in Qatar provided all the ingredients for the execution of these kinds of projects in addition to the current urgent need for administrative, commercial and housing complexes built to international standards.

Shedding light on major projects undertaken by Barwa, Al Saad noted that company had purchased a housing tower at a cost of QR235m, in partnershp with Bahrain-based Nazal Company in which Barwa owns 25 per cent stake.

He said Barwa also purchased some properties in France to the tune of QR1.22 bn (255m euros) which include several administrative buildings managed by French and large international companies.

Scope of work: The project calls for the design and construction of a new commercial development in Msemeer area starting from the crossroad of Msemeer road and Industrial Road and extends for 11 km along the Msemeer Road to the Eastern Road in the Industrial area. The development will include administrative buildings, malls, housing apartments, retail outlets, exhibition halls, restaurants and other related facilities.
Status: Sources indicate that tender documents for the master plan consultant contract have been issued. A consultant is expected to be selected shortly.

Deal signed to build Commercial Street

AL-JABER Trading and Contracting Co has signed a deal to execute the ground-levelling, outside fencing and infrastructure works for Barwa's Commercial Street. Barwa Real Estate Company and al-Jaber signed the technical agreement. The signing ceremony, conducted at Barwa headquarters, was attended by Barwa chairman and MD Ghanim bin Saad al-Saad. The agreement was signed by Mohamed al-Hedfa, Barwa's head of projects, and Ziad Abou Ajeena, general manager of al-Jaber Trading & Contracting Company.

This agreement is considered an official announcement on the starting of phase 1 work of Commercial Street. The phase 1 is due to be completed by July, when the next phases of construction and marketing will begin.
The project is due to be completed at the end of 2009.

According to Barwa, it will be a landmark project to solve local business problems.

The project is to develop an existing commercial street and turn it into a modern area with commercial and administrative malls, residential complexes, shops, exhibitions, and
restaurants.

The project will cost an estimated QR3.5bn, and is located in the Meseimeer area beginning at the intersection of Meseimeer Road with Eastern Road at the industrial area.
