I'll take some updated pictures of the San Fernando Mission and post here within a few days so folks can see what it looks like now. A showplace.. Thank God this treasure was brought back to life. Living near there, I am shocked that it was so run down that many years ago.

Interesting how this rail map is similar to the one that is evolving for us as well. Can you see the "old Red Line" route? Turns up Western instead of Vermont and runs along Hollywood Blvd.....very similar.

Aren't most of the lines simply hidden under pavement right now? Why can't things be as easy as ripping off the pavement, uncovering the rail lines, and having the trains run. I really, really hate politics.

As promised, photos of today's San Fernando Mission. I actually never realized that Bob Hope and family are buried here (not shown):

Versus what was there shockingly before:

Does anyone know what is Sonora Town?
What modern streets would be the outline of it now?

Sonora Town was north of Cesar Chavez, west of Main Street, more or less.

^ First reaction to the 2000s Angeleno..."oh my god, look at the traffic". When will people realize traffic is good and gives L.A. the sense of a city that is sorely lacking.

Traffic is good? Gives the sense of a city? This is a very non-traditional stance... could you expand more?

It's not the traffic I'm commenting on above... I'm commenting on the availability of a viable alternative to driving. I think we deserve that.

No problem. The biggest fears people in L.A. have is development. Anytime something gets proposed its about "oh my lord, the traffic". Your picture shows an active streetlife with cars & trams. Can you imagine something like this being built anywhere outside of an urban utopia (i.e. the Grove, 3rd street promenade, etc..). I totally advocate for more development, more buildings, more trains, etc... I hate the anti-development sentiment that has grown over this city. Look at Zev, who's first reaction to NBC moving to Universal was "my first concern is the traffic".

I live in downtown and I hope to see more developments and maybe a visit to the times when we had streetcars. Good photos!
