Glasgow Tower
Hi everybody.
Can't remember if I posted this already in another thread but decided to open a new one anyway. I have it on very good authority (i.e. my wife, who works there) that the tower at the science centre will reopen sometime during the festive period. I would like to encourage all Glasgow forum members to pay a visit. It really is an excellent attraction - there's a good show about the history of the city at the bottom, the tower itself is an interesting (if unreliable) piece of engineering, and if you go on a clear day the views from the top are unrivalled. My personal claim to fame is that I got stuck in the tower's lift for nearly six hours when the tower was last operational. Despite the bladder trauma incurred during this experience, I remain enthusiastic about the tower and am happy to answer any questions/ dispel myths. Cheers

Yeah I would recomened a visist for the views even if the staff are forign and you end up telling them more about were things are than they tell you. Get some Glaswagiens up there.

News article on AJplus today making some comment that the 'buzz on the Glasgow architecture scene' is that the tower is about to reopen. Do the lazy so and so's at the AJ read this board? I think we should be told....

How long at the top? As long it takes them to fix the lift/figure out how to get you back down again. Would hate to be/have been one of the engineers on this. Nightmare.

w.r.t the other questions about how long you get at the top: when i used to work there people could stay for ages if it was a quiet day but if loads of people were visiting we used to try and have about a 17 minute turnover. You'd be surprised how many people actually got to the top, took one look and then went straight back down. What a waste of their fiver to get in! The best time to visit is on a clear weekday during school termtime. Generally, the weekday staff were more knowledgeable about the city and if its quiet they have more time to point stuff out rather than do crowd control. |

Ok, you didn't here this from me but the tower was opened to the public today for the first time in over 18 months. Just family and friends of staff today in order to test things are working but looks like it should be all systems go between Christmas and New Year.
