Actually. Most of major aiports were built in the 50s, 60s, and 70s just before the trend of skyscrapers begin. (yes there are skyscrapers started way before that but it didn't become too common until 70s). Sometime planners don't really think about the future. They're more focus on NOW than later or past.

"Could Las Vegas soon have the tallest building in the entire country? If developers get their way, the answer will be yes. And it will be on the site of the old Wet n' Wild water park on the Las Vegas Strip"

OMG do they know that the Spire Tower is Under construction? and it will be taller than Crown Las Vegas?

Anything is possible. Do anyone here thinks Las Vegas can build something super mega tall that is taller than Al Burj if FAA allows them to build taller than 2,000 feet?

i think that if they lift the restriction anything is possible. if there is a city in the U.S. that will beat the Al Burj i think that vegas will be the one to do it.

Don't count out Chicago just yet. All of us in Chicago are hoping that Trump will feel trumped and feel compelled to build a taller building than the Spire. Rumor has it that he already wants to build another tower in Chicago and we are all hoping to see something of extreme height. I personally doubt he will build taller than the Spire but we'll just have to wait and see. Being from Chicago, of course I want to have the tallest but if Vegas decides to build higher, then so be it. It would still be great if that happens. I sure hope the crown gets built. Gone will be the days when you hear the tallest building outside of NY and Chicago, which we so commonly hear. This will change everything, how exciting!

Yeah, the Strat never got approval, there was a big battle between some equally big egos over it, so they just built it anyway. The Strat is in the city limits and the city planning commission doesn't care about the FAA. The city limits ends at Sahara Ave, so Crown is in the county jurisdiction. Technically, every building on the Strip over 100 feet is an obstruction to air traffic and needs FAA and airport approval before the county will issue building permits. Usually the FAA and airport approve them right away, but this one is taking longer.

Viva Las Vegas!

Viva Las Vegas! Is there any other way to completely desribe the design that will (hopefully) grace the skies of America's most outrageous city? I think not. The Crown Las Vegas is a spectacular design. I like it. And that's saying something.
