What is their rationale for postponement? If the next meeting is the same deal where it is after 50 other issues and it's late in the day, they are never going to get to it. It needs to be issue #1 at a meeting.

I doubt it's something so simple. I think the developer is trying to get approvals from FAA or something but that is taking too long, without the FAA papers the county can't make any decision anyway. Likely than not the meeting was probably postponed several days or a week in advance by CLV when they called the county and said they didn't have the approvals yet and not at the meeting itself today.

Short of inside contacts, there is no way for us outsiders to know apart from watching the public meeting only to be let down time and time again.

I think you are right. It was obvious that the developers were not present, so I don't think running out of time was the issue.

The FAA wants shorter than 700 feet. So...there's a big hill to climb.

They will keep postponing it until it gets canceled or redesigned. Yeah, I have been saying it ever since this thing was proposed.

Will check this thread again in a month or 2 for another news about postponement.

not sure about that, they may want shorter than 1000 feet though. The FAA approved the 930 foot Ivana condo tower next door to Crown and fontainebleau which is slightly closer to the airport is currently under construction and that will hit 740 foot when built and they have plans to go higher.

I honestly don't care what they build there at this stage on the old wet n wild site, just build something as its been lying empty for too long

In addition in order to finish the Strip:
a) I hope MGM go through with building something on the long abandoned El Racho site on the corner of Sahara Blvd
b) somebody buys and knocks all the crap motels north of Encore and build something nice there.
c) Hopefully something nicer than time-share shacks will be built between PH and MGM Grand
d) the empty lot across from Luxor is now available

I keep hear people saying they should knock CC and Excalibur yet there are vast areas of land on the Strip lying basically empty CC and Excalibur serve a purpose, empty sites, rat infested motels and time-share shacks don't

i always laugh when i hear the FAA are trying to do the right thing by keeping tall buildings away from airports. How many planes have accidently crashed in tall buildings over the years?? i bet there have been more mid-air collisions and planes crashing into the ground than into tall buildings

To show how stupid this beurocracy is; just try flying into Jackson Hole airport in Wyoming. The airport is smack bang in the middle of Teton NP with the 14,000 foot Grand teton hanging over the runway, strange how very few (if any) planes have crashed into something that massive; accidently

I don't know. I'm just going by what I have seen in a number of news articles, though none of the ones I have read have gone into details about the FAA's arguments. Here is an example of a news piece that cites the FAA's wish for 700 feet:

A major difference is that the Jackson Hole airport is parallel to the grand Tetons. Therefore, even though they are just a few miles from the runway, the approach itself consists of a long stretch of flat land.

I've noticed over the years that approaching McCarren from the north is rare, unless the wind is acting up. More planes make their approach from the southwest and the bulk of the traffic looks like a freeway in the sky from the east. Landing from the northeast, you get a view of the strip. You fly parallel with the strip until you land. You follow structures all the way in. Driving west on Tropicana, I've seen the MGM Grand provide a complete backdrop for a 747. I guess they're talking about an approach in the rain at night or in the fog, both pretty rare here. This building fits in with what is being built here now. There are no more 'theme' hotels being built to my knowledge, they all seem to look modern in design.
