Don't worry it will be built... They have to do a total redesign for the twin 1000ft towers!!!

Plus... The site is being used right now... The Fountainbleau (sp? I never spell it right) is using the site for prep work and construction offices...

Packer is a 1/3 partner and will manage it, and will probably eventually own the whole thing.

I think his point was that other cities in the US are loathe to build tall, and so if it weren't for Chicago the US would fall even further back in the skyscraper world. And with the exception of New York, he's right.

Okay, I just finished reviewing the recorded Clark County Planning Commission meeting and the height of 1,064 feet has finally been unanimously APPROVED!

They didn't show any new renderings, but everybody there said it will now be two twin towers. So, maybe it's a little shorter, but now Vegas is going to get TWO supertalls!

The new design review won't be until after the first of the year when the FAA and Airport approvals are absolutely final, but the parameters are approved by the planning commission. I have no idea when construction will start.

So I think the moderator can change the thread title status from "Pro" to "App", and change the height to 1,064 f/324.3m X2.

It's about time isn't it? Well, 1064ft is good enough for me. Great news.

Some quick google earth models at that height.

Almost exactly one year from the first planning meeting.

So is that about the same height as the pod on the Stratosphere?

It's taller than the pod

It is tall, no question, while views from the south will partly be blocked by the Fontainebleau, but any views from the east or west, the towers are sure to be a focal point of the skyline.

This could be a good thing, anyone going north on LV Blvd. as soon as they clear the Fontainebleau (and seeing the tip of the tower already from afar as a teaser), will be immediately greeted with these tall twins.

I suppose they will try to make the top part of the tower much more unique and distinguishable for this reason.

Yeah, I hope they keep the bar at the top, I want to go up there.

I really expected the Crown meeting to get held over again and was totally floored when they didn't delete it this morning after so many let downs before. There were only a couple of residents there from Turnberry and they had hardly any objections.

Story in the paper today about the approval. Sounds like they are going to build the towers one at a time instead of simultaineously and it's NOT certain that it will actually be twin towers. We'll have to wait for the new design.

Quote:
Developers say the first phase could open as early as 2011 with another phase in 2013. It would be just south of the Sahara near the intersection of Las Vegas Boulevard and Sahara Avenue on the former Wet 'n Wild site.

...

The revised proposal the county approved Wednesday is highlighted by one large tower centrally located on the site. The height restriction, more than 800 feet lower than the original proposal, could prompt developers to want more than one tower.

If so, it would make for a much different look.

"It could be crap. They could change everything," said Harvey Gerber, who lives on the 29th floor of nearby Turnberry Place. "They could have buildings in front of your windows."

Gerber was one of three Turnberry residents who spoke before the county board. None opposed the project outright. But they all said they hoped the developers would do their best to minimize the impact on local residents.

To that end, they sought conditions to prevent overnight construction, study traffic on Paradise Road and ensure Turnberry residents access into and out of their approximately 800-unit, multitower community.
