An apartment building in the north end, built into a hill over the lake so it is 16 storeys from the front door, 18 storeys at the back door, and towers over the downtown like a 30 storey building. It's not much to look at though.

I think it is part of the reason people here oppose highrises so much. Like Victoria, we built a big, ugly tower in a prime location and everyone saw it and got a negative impression of tall buildings, even though the view from that building is amazing. 360° of mountains and lakes, with no obstructions.

Could you take pics from up there sometime? I'll bet the view is awesome in summer.

It's a condominium, I don't know anyone who lives there anymore. I have an aunt who used to live on the top floor but she sold when she retired.

One of the world’s largest theme park operators is bringing its first Legoland Discovery Centre to Canada, investing $12-million to open the attraction in the Vaughan Mills shopping centre just north of Toronto.

Merlin Entertainments – which has 14 attractions in North America including a Legoland theme parks in Florida and California and a giant aquarium in Minneapolis’s Mall of the Americas – said it will open the indoor playground next spring.

NOW I have to go to Toronto. As far as I am concerned, once there is a LegoLand Toronto, the GTA will be complete.

I'm surprised Doug Ford hasn't championed one yet.

Don't forget a giant ferris wheel...and a waterfront mega-mall
And once that monorail gets going, Toronto will truly be complete (just like Ogdenville & North Havenbrook)

An NFL stadium, cheesecake factory and an F-35 in everyone's driveway! What more can you ask for?

a bump for this. Outstanding photos, folks! Do take a look and leave a note.

I missed the Lego thing completely growing up, so I have no fascination with it at all.

And once you get to Toronto you will have to turn back northward and head on up to Maple. I'm assuming this is close to Canada's Wonderland.

I said "the GTA", not "Toronto", but if I go to Toronto I'll be flying Porter so I will have to head north through Toronto to get there.

If you come to Toronto and waste a day travelling up to Maple to see LegoLand, then you should hand in your gay card right now.

If you are really determined, maybe Porter will push you out the door over Maple and you can land directly in LegoLand!

It's gotta be a generational thing. Lego was fundamental to the development of 80's and 90's kids. It was a staple. I'm definitely going to check this out.

Why all the Lego hate?

And for you information, my gay card was handed in years ago on grounds of "not being a stereotypical poof".

No hate; just think there are better things you could find to do on a short visit than truck all the way north to Maple to look at Lego! I figured the Porter suggestion was just time saving and uber-efficient! hehe... but yeah, it probably is a generational thing that I just missed.

Considering Lego has been one of the world's most popular toys since the 1960s, you must be older than we thought. Or was life in Winnipeg during those years exceptionally poor?

I happen to really like Lego and would consider going up to Maple a reasonable compensation for getting to see a large quantity of it. I'm sorry this doesn't fit into your shallow "Everything Should be South of Eglington" worldview.

To respond to your passive/aggressive questions, I am not older than you think and whether life in Winnipeg was exceptionally poor or not for my family strikes me as rather a personal question so I'll just leave it at that. You needn't worry that I had a gaping hole in my childhood because I was more interested in outdoor games, horseback riding, cycling and reading than in playing with building blocks. I actually didn't really bother much with toys after being a toddler and made do with building forts and tree-houses instead of Lego, so I came through missing out on the world's most popular toy relatively unscathed. I suppose that all's well that ends well.
So, if I insulted you in any way with my banter, I apologize wholeheartedly as it was truly intended to be light-hearted. I suppose that is one of the drawbacks of written communication; I thought at first you were being factitious as I had no idea how attached to Lego you are. Each to their own, I say, so if and when you do have a visit to Toronto or anywhere else enjoy yourself!

I played with lego at times but my real passion was dinky cars. I was never a Hot Wheels man. I always preferred Majorette. I found they had better suspension.

I think my problem with Lego was that that I would get building something and always end up running out of pieces. How anti-climatic is that when there's something you've designed that is so awesome, you can see it in your head and can't wait to actually have it built, you're working hard toward it, and after you're 3/4 done, you can't finish.

Maybe I was just too ambitious with my creations. I admit I was always a "Make no small plans..." kinda kid.

The other thing that bugged me is that I was always losing the pieces. Even today, about 20 years since I've played with them and after I've moved about 10 times, I'll still find the odd piece of lost lego when sorting through really old belongings.

All that being said, I still have the utmost respect for anyone who really enjoyed them and would never discourage anyone from visiting them if it truly sounds interesting. Just as long as you don't expect to drag me to Maple with you.
