In surprise move, Toronto kills plastic bag ban KELLY GRANT - CITY HALL BUREAU CHIEF The Globe and Mail Published Wednesday, Nov. 28 2012, 12:12 PM EST "Toronto’ s contentious ban on plastic shopping bags won’t take effect Jan. 1 as expected. In a surprise move, city council voted on Wednesday to kill the bylaw that would have enforced the ban" ............................................... "However, the 38-7 vote had less to do with the embattled mayor than it did with two lawsuits challenging the ban – lawsuits the city’s legal department had warned the municipality could lose." read it all here: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/...rticle5753431/

I was just using Google Streetview, and noticed that its Toronto coverage has been updated to higher resolution images from 2011-2012. Evidently quite recent, being that as of 2 days ago at the most it was still the original 2009 imaging. This looks so much better. Coverage has also been expanded (now we can visit Long Branch!
).

Thanks for the tip. I was viewing the area where I live, and they've kept one frame in from 2009. It's so strange to see the landscape change from lush trees to bare leafless ones and back again. Check out 2289 Queen Street East to see what I mean.
This link should take you there: https://maps.google.ca/maps?q=2289+q...CZKpwQHa44DwBA Just go forward or back one move and you'll go from April 2009 to May 2012. Weird. |

Winnipeg's imagery is nice because they were the in the summer but all of Ontario was in the spring and it looks like crap. I hate it. :P
They went by my work while my bosses were having an argument outside.

They do that when the view was obscured or poor quality.

If you go around aura, it jumps from 3 to 20 floors high depending where you are in the Yonge-Gerrard area. If you go on Grand Trunk cresent beside Infinity, it still has 2009 imagery so you see the PWC tower appear instantly when you move on to Bremner. You can also move around the Cinima tower and watch it instantly appear to be 30 floors high.
And that is all I have found in 5 minutes of fooling around. |

I always enjoy reading Denise Benson's articles on the history of nightlife in the city, but this one was particularly interesting: http://www.thegridto.com/culture/mus...-now-sparkles/
I had no idea that there was a (rather groovy lookin') nightclub in the CN Tower in the 70s and 80s! Pretty cool. ![]() |

When I think of Sparkles, I think of when I first moved here in '85. My bedroom window overlooked downtown, and I was listening to a Friday night dance party on the radio,
"Live from Sparkles"! I did think it was pretty cool at the time. The name "Sparkles" makes me giggle now, though! hehe..

Not sure which thread to post this on, but anyone else getting a warning for visiting Spacing's website? I'm getting a virus warning whenever I go there.

Yeah, UT's website has some bad stuff going on in the background when you visit their page. I'm not sure if they're aware of it or not. If they are, they really should do something about it. I haven't seen anyone else discuss this.

I suppose I should provide more info. On more than one occasion after visiting UT's page, a new directory (folder) was created on my computer with an EXE file in it that was scheduled to run in the background on startup. Anyone that visits UT might want to check out this corresponding location on your machine:
C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming You have to show hidden files and folders in order to navigate to this location. Look for any folders that seem out of place with names that you don't recognize. In my case, I remember one folder was named Pauci with the file otgy.exe inside it. These names are probably just randomly generated and will differ from system to system. Another time, there was a file called jELNZ.exe (which is a known trojan virus) in an on oddly named folder. I'm pretty sure both of these were as a result of visiting UT's page, but of course I can't say that with absolute certainty. I just visited UT's site and everything appears to be okay now. There is a thread started as far back as September -- with many posts as recent as a few days ago -- regarding some serious Malware warnings. There was definitely a dangerous web security exploit issue, but it appears to have been resolved. All the same, check your systems to make sure they weren't compromised in the past. |

Will a virus check run on our computers pick up such a thing?
