Wow, Shanghai is becoming just like Toronto! they're government and rest of country hate them as much as the rest of Canada does us!

There is a trait that happens in every country. The biggest and most powerful cities , in general are envied and to a certain degree disliked/distrusted by the rest of the country ( witness NYC, Paris, London, etc... etc.. ad nauseum). I guess in China, Shanghai is regarded as being too successful or too powerful and thus the petty jealousies. Ironically, a city should be flattered when it is the one being hated by the rest of the country

It seems it took a terror attack on London and NYC to "unite" them with the rest of their countries. If that's the case here, than the rest of Canada can f**k off!!

Definately, but certainly not to the same degree as us or as Shanghai seems to be. like I think that most French, while distrusting of Parisians, are still proud of the city and don't treat it like complete garbage.
