I was standing on Platform 6 at London Bridge yesterday. I looked up briefly and the word SHARD was right there in front of me in huge letters, looming over the rest of the station. It's going to be spectacular getting off the train in a couple of years.

Right, I finally got some time today to pop down to the site at lunch time, so it's a bit of a bumper update with 40-odd pics.

I'll not post them all here, but you can see the rest (and all of them a bit bigger) in my ShardGallery

Here's a few picks of the pics.

First up, a little visual trail up from Guy's courtyard on St Thomas Street, round the corner onto Great Maze Pond and up the pedestrian bridge staircase over the street.

Concrete delivery at Gate #2 (possibly my favourite photo of the day)

Steel fixer at work on Joiner Street side of the core. You can see some of the frame on this side is now bolted to the core.

A closer look at the same fixing I noted above

Peeking over the top of the railway from the arcade on the north side of Duke Street Hill.

edit: seem to be having trouble with my server this morning, so I've re-hosted the photos at Flickr.

Can someone tell me what technology are they using? I see that the concrete is growing and that black frame is moving all the time up. Is there a film or something what is explaning this? I would be thankful

Great progress and nice pics!

Wow nice animation! Thank you!
Only thing. How do they pull that structure higher, so they can build steel holder things under it after they filled the concrete? I guess cranes have nothing to do with it.

It may not be the 'prettiest' part of town, but the whole london bridge area is one of my fav parts of london for just that reason. It's gritty, yet touristy, yet local, yet very modern with areas like 'more london' just down the road. It's such a gem of an area. I love the shard and i'm sure it'll only do great things for the area, though thinking ahead to future developments I do hope that london bridge will always retain that eclectic feel to it

The scaffolding doesn't need crane to climb up as the core rise, when the concrete is solid the bottom part of the scaffolding will be fixed to the core, and the upper part is joined to the bottom with some pistons, so it can rise.

I may be being incredibly thick here but I assume the workers get to the top of the core on some contraption inside the core or are they pulled up in cages by the TC's?

There's a dedicated access lift in place on the outside of the core on the station side of the site (the bright red-painted tubes you can see in my pics above)

Popped down at lunch time as the weather was so nice. A couple of shots of the new flooring in place on the Eastern side of the core.

I'll probably have some more pics up later this evening.

I'm assuming all the holes in the beams will be visible in the finished structure? As well as the floor/ceiling?
