SLIPPING IT IN.

Interesting method employed here to develop the core, down here in south africa we use this alot for mine headgear. Recently one was put in @ 108mtr in 7 weeks, so as this STRUCTURES been going 7 weeks and is at level 20, say 70mtrs, its shaping under downtown constraint conditions. Unpainted steel MEMBERS also tells me the structural side is tight in keeping up at the shop.

I assume the larger 'cutouts' in the core are for elevator doors and the smaller ones are regular stairway doors. What I can't see is if only one side has the elevator doors?

Then again the larger holes may just be a passage from the group of elevators. Anyone got a single floor drawing?

2nd the large cutouts is for a corridor to the elevators, if you go on the Shard official site, you can see a floorplan of the "apartment" sector located in the top part of the tower.

If I look at some photo's it looks like the roads around this tower are not to big, can they hold all the new traffic which will surely be coming in loads once this monster opens>

its built above a large transport 'hub' - London Bridge Station - both over ground lines and underground lines and a large bus station - there is also a pier on the river for commuter boats - most Londoners travel on public transport to the center of town.

a mock up of Londons skyline 2012

Most access will be by public transport, not by road. There is very little parking on site.

It's right next door to one of the busiest railway stations in the UK (which itself will be undergoing a major upgrade over the next few years) and also one of the busiest underground stations in London. They are both well connected and should be able to handle the extra passengers.

That's one of the reasons why the site was chosen.

Yes indeed, i cant believe it to. Never seen in my life such thing rising so quickly .

If we have some updates of today, i think they are already on level 21.

And by Sunday maybe on level 22-23?

I walked past about ten minutes ago and the level 20 marker is nearly visible below bottom of the rig.

Most think the core will stop soon for a while for the steelwork to catch up, installation of another crane etc

I'm quite shocked at how fast this thing is rising. What level does the core step in? Three more weeks maybe.
