Makes sense. The cranes can't rise without the steelwork to be attached to. The core is up to about as high as it can go without the cranes rising.

With the speed it went the concrete core would be at its highest point in a couple of months. The animations that where posted before it took of already showed that it wouldn't be going as fast as it did until now.

Final update of this week from me, and my last for a short while as I'll be out of town next week.

One of my regular viewpoints: St Thomas Street/Bermondsey Street

and from the other side of the site at the junction of St Thomas Street with Borough High Street

highlights of today's action that I could see at lunch time...

New steel level on the eastern side of the site; this viewed from St Thomas Street

Some large white blocks were being carted into the basement by hand. I'm assuming they're for insulation down below.

This mysterious plywood cube has appeared in the recesses of the station side of the site. Looks like shuttering of some kind...

You can have a lot of photographic fun with fairly abstract shots of this steel frame in construction. I'm trying not to post a whole bunch of them

Today's human interest section

Part 1 - steel erector

Part 2

- hoisting steel off a lorry sequence

Im surprised their not building it closer to wtc specs because this is essentially gonna be a huge target for terrorism when its complete. I hope to god nothing ever happens but in these times its better safe than sorry.

I think because of the credit crunch, there aren't big property developments, so building companies don't have alot of work and now this one/these ones have more time for building this one, I think that's the reason why it's going up so fast.

Am I right?

Am I right? In other words, you're not sure. Even smaller projects take years to plan - they don't build things quick because they've got sod all else to do. This is going up as planned.
