A few pics from today, which is mostly about steel

Eastern side of the core

Customary view from the entrance to Guy's Tower, where you can see it just peeking into view

A little montage of the fitting of a new column on the station side of the site

later in the day, about 6:15pm, a beam has joined it

Things are still going on with that frame on St Thomas Street - more welding

and at ground level by the station, almost immediately below where the column was being fitted, the new floor level works continue

a few gratuitous, "because I like 'em" pics

A few pics from me from yesterday - not an archetecture expert so don't know anything about details I'm afraid:

Taken in front of Borough Market - The Shard, The Gem and London Bridge Station all in one shot:

From St Thomas Street:

Getting closer:

The footbridge:

And finally a closer look at the floors:

When is the core starting again? I thought the steel would be a little higher by now.

This will be the best looking building in London by far when completed.

They are probably waiting for the steel to catch up with the core before they increase it more

Looks like there's more flooring.

Somehow Europe doesn't seem to be too interested in this tower..
It's not that iconic at all I think. Bishopsgate will probably do better for London.

I have to agree with you there. It's still a great looking tower and will make London look much better, but it's a bit.... Plain, not very unique. It's designs like the Pinnacle and the Gherkin that you remember.

Still can't wait for this to finish though

So I didn't take just the one photo on Friday.

Here's some of the rest of my round-up from lunch time.

As usual, there are other pics not posted here and bigger versions in my ShardGallery

First up - an overview of the inside of the site from the bridge with all that prep for casting a floor slab

on the Eastern front, the frame is creeping up, with that flooring on a new level noted above

Similar happenings round on London Bridge Street

and on St Thomas Street, some scaffolding is being erected round that temporary frame

Finally, some odds 'n' sods

Steel on a lorry in the Shard Holding Area on St Thomas Street

The St Thomas Street pedestrian bridge

Sure, this is something unusual, breaking into London's skyline.

It hasn't got much press so far(outside of skyscraper/city fans of course), but I think it will quickly be noticed as it nears and reaches completion, considering its size and location, near some of the busiest parts of London but without many other tall buildings to compete with it.

I feel quite sure that you're both wrong.

Remember in 1999 - who'd heard of the London Eye (or Millenium Wheel as it was frequently referred to then). Now, isn't it the most popular urban tourist attraction in the world or something?

In 2012, this will be talked about all over the world. Can someone second me? Surely this is true?!

It's core right now (and still not that big comparing to the final result), and some steel work, even though the site is busy. It will surely draw more attention as it grows taller. It will be impossible to go unnoticed.

Oh and I predict that the Pinnacle will have about 50% of the fame as the Shard, if that.
Again, though, I would cry for weeks if they decided not to build the Pinnacle.
