Hi all, a chunky update as I haven't been to the site with my camera since Friday.

Usual gubbins - more and larger pics in my ShardGallery

From platform 1 of London Bridge Station I had to stitch this view out of three shots with my 70-200 lens as the steelwork has grown that much since I last visited when I could get it all in the frame at 70mm. Most of the new stuff is on the left hand side.

Round at the bus station, this scaffolding is being erected over the hoarding by the taxi rank. I guess it's either for protection of pedestrians or a platform of some kind. I'll hazard it's the latter.

From London Bridge Street, with one of Metroline's newer ADL Enviro400 buses in the foreground

It looks like the level 1 floor slab on Joiner Street has been cast

St Thomas Street and some details of the hoist gantry, which is extending back toward the core now

New levels appearing at the eastern end of the St Thomas Street elevation

I took a jaunt up Guy's Tower (jaunt is a little overstatement - two of the lifts were out of action and one of the remaining ones insisted on stopping at every one of the floors all the way up to the 30th, whether or not it had been asked to).

Apologies for the mucky glass - it seems the overcast light makes it more apparent

I really shouldn't complain. It's a great viewpoint and I'm trying not to abuse it by going too often.

The big hole is for the core of the 'hump' - a secondary, lower part of the building that completes the St Thomas Street elevation.

Excellent!

This pic shows the true scale of the steel works and why they stopped rising the core for a while to focus in the steel.

Im looking forward to seeing the glass facade go on. That's going to be a milestone and a half.

The progress on the floors is impressive. I can't wait for the core to start rising again though.

From the UK forum, in case you were curious about when the core will start to rise once again...

http://www.betterbankside.co.uk/news...1837-the-shard

"Superstructure and Cladding

The Shard is pleased to report that last month’s continuous concrete pour – the UK’s largest – was completed ahead of schedule.

The main central core has reached its first milestone at Level 21 – and once the basement concrete slab (above) has reached its design strength this will allow the core to rise higher.Currently the target is for the central core to re-start in mid-May, working on a 24 hour/6 days per week constant operation as previously installed.

Structural steelwork now reached Level 9; concrete floor infills are currently up to level 7; main lift installations continue within the central core and the external glass cladding is due to start on-site in mid-May at Level 5 on the St Thomas Street elevation. "

How many accounts has he had? 50?

Anyway, there's an interesting article on The Shard:

Worth reading (there are pictures).

Funny how the Shard's bare concrete elevator core looks better than that crappy hospital tower next door.
