For those who don't know, I made a Twitter page for the Shard. You can follow it here -

It's amazing..........I am an Australian and visited London back in 2000..............loved the place and even though I saw places like Docklands thought the skyline was dominated by St. Pauls......Big Ben and the London Eye....took pics from 'The monument' ? a column built to commemorate the great Fire of London.....anyway......a decade on..looks like London is looking up!

Welcome to the UK forum RedBaron - good to see you exploring outside of Melbourne! Being a pom I am just as keen tracking this progress as I am with our ones locally

I tend to look at posts around the world but don't comment much.....seems like butting in ? I think most forums tend to follow local news.......like they are ants nests.....nothing beyond their pile? Human nature I guess......but it's a big world out there and it's all on the move.....nothing stays the same.....just as long as you hold on to the good stuff........here, they carry on about industrial buildings less than 100 years old !!!!

Our buildings have gotten more interesting and our skies have gotten more boring

Cool pics. I didn't know that they demolished those 3 buildings. That's probably why it took so long.

That's only one building. It was the tallest building ever demolished in the UK though. The part of the process that took really long was getting the tenants to move out, very annoying. Since then it's moved fairly quickly though.

Why do those flickr photos take so long to download?

Although the Shard is definitely a lot better, I think Southwark Towers(the building that was there before) was among the nicer examples of '70s glass and concrete buildings. I would have much rather seen Guy's Hospital go, although I know why that would have been nearly impossible.

Was trying to work it out last night. Forgive me for being dumb, but how do you do that? They were uploaded using Flickr.

Cheers,

Cheers,
You are not dumb, it's just Flickr that's making it hard for us.

I think you're supposed to post the direct link of your flickr image under the image here on SSC. And post 'flickr' with a direct link to the flickr front page above the image. 'Image hosted on flickr'

I don't use flickr myself so this is all I know. Maybe other forumers can help you out if this doesn't work.
