Even with the best renders you never know how the actual project will look and fortunately this one is turning out exactly like the renders.

I suppose you don't consider any of the skyscrapers in Canary Wharf "major", then?

Around a week or two ago we had a guy (in the "The Torch" thread iirc) saying that nobody actually lives in Dubai, so anything's possible.

Don't forget the City's various skyscrapers(Tower 42, the Gherkin, etc.), Centre Point, the BT Tower, etc.

I guess there are still people who think London is nothing but castles and Victorian terraces.

I was thinking that he meant that this was the first building that uses no bricks at all... A lot of buildings (some of which are all glass from the outside) have often little walls of bricks on the inside, later covered with something else....

I think you're more likely to find concrete blocks if it's covered up these days, unless it's engineering brick for a specific structural purpose. Quicker and cheaper to build.

And there's some blockwork to be found in the Shard.

It will be indeed be the tallest in Europe, around ten meters taller than City of Capitals in Moscow. It won't be long until the title returns to Moscow though, as the Mercury City Tower is progressing steadily (though just not quite as fast as the Shard.*)

* = Saying that reminded me of the song "Fast as a Shark" by German heavy metal band Accept. "Fast as a Shard"
