From Windsor !!!!!!!
At a distance of over 20 miles!

By road google says its 30 miles but it's probably about 25ish by line of sight as the road is pretty much straight as an arrow once you leave Windosr.
So - is this the furthest distance anyone's taken a photo of the Shard from?
Do I win a prize
I remember aggggggggggges ago some discussion about whether you can see the English Channel from the top of the Shard (the discussion was that even from the 309m pinnacle the South Downs would be in the way (what with the curvature of the earth as well).
So, taking a trip to Windsor, walking up "the long walk" to the statue at the top of the hill I wondered if you could see the Shard... and it seems you can.
Not only that but you can make out the 2 form works, the 3 cranes and see down to about the 10th floor!
It was a very clear day. Note, I took this with the 12x zoom TZ7 (although as I was in 5mp mode it was more like 15x zoom).... I might have to go back with my 18x TZ28 on me.
You can also see planes parked up at Heathrow, Tower 42, the Gherkin, several other skyscrapers, and even the pods of the London Eye above some trees!
ps. Here's some more information on where the photo was taken from http://www.thamesweb.co.uk/windsor/g.../longwalk.html. The phot was taken from besides the copper statue visible in that pages first photo.

The glass looks so translucent from there. An amazing photo - and position for photos!

How much is this building costing to construct? How does the pricetag compare to other builds around the world, like say the shanghai tower or the WTC?

It's really hard to compare towers cost from county to country. So much of the cost of a building is in labor. Western countries salaries are much higher than say in Dubai or China.

1WTC cost $3.2 billion, but that's NYC. Trump Tower in Chicago was around $750 million. But comparing residential towers to office ones can be deceiving too.

Sorry, didn't want to take you for ignorant but a lot of people believe the core is dead space.

Wow this tower is rising fast .
I guess I must have just wrote this tower off once the meltdown started and didn't pay any attention to site prep or related works . Beautiful building .
