I would imagine once this has been completed for a few years, folks will grow to love it, even the Nimbys. Hopefully it'll further more supertalls in London.

Economics, not Nimby's will stop more supertalls in London...at least for the next 5-10yrs....

There will be plenty of 100m to 250m (and the 288m Pinnacle) buildings going up in London over the next decade, but supertalls?...highly unlikely.

When you think that by the time the Shard opens in May 2012, it will have taken 12yrs!!! to plan, get permits, finance and to actually build it, you can see just how difficult it is in London to put up a 300m+ tower...

Nice shiny pictures!

This is already so massive, can't imagine how big it will be when it reaches the second core box.

Will there be any difference in the infinity pool floor, in terms of structure?

The facade looks great. Being near the building you can see that right now the glass is actually very dirty. It should look even better when cleaned.

Yes it is, well spotted.

Funny anecdote: My friend had an American couple staying with them. They went to St Paul's cathedral and went up to the top for the view. They excitedly reported back to my friend: "It was amazing... it was so high up, you could see the Eiffel Tower from there".

The Shard alone can rival the whole City!

Agents appointed on Shard and London Bridge Place

Four office leasing agents have been appointed to market space at the Shard and London Bridge Place, in one of the largest ever City occupational mandates.

Jones Lang LaSalle and Knight Frank have been appointed letting agents for the 595,000 of office space at the Shard, and CB Richard Ellis and Colliers International have been appointed to let the 428,664 sq ft of offices at London Bridge Place.

The two schemes, owned by a joint venture between Sellar Group and the state of Qatar, are due for completion in 2012 and 2013 respectively, and represent one of the largest ever speculative office developments in London.

Earlier this year the joint venture paid an undisclosed sum to buy out the lease of Transport for London, which had agreed to take 190,000 sq ft at £38/sq ft in the Shard, because it thought it could achieve rents of £55/sq ft plus.

The 87- storey Shard will also include a Shangri-La hotel and luxury apartments.

Neil Prime, head of markets, Britain, at Jones Lang LaSalle, said: “The timing of the Shard is excellent and it will provide much needed grade A office space to the Central London office market. Given the current shortage of high calibre space being delivered we anticipate very strong demand from prospective occupiers - both from within the UK and internationally.”

John Snow, Knight Frank’s head of Central London offices, said: “Knight Frank is absolutely delighted to have been awarded this prestigious letting instruction for the Shard. Not only is it London’s most dramatic new landmark, but it will also become one of the world’s most recognisable buildings.”

Digby Flower, head of Central London agency at CB Richard Ellis “We are delighted to be appointed on London Bridge Place which is the only headquarters building currently scheduled for speculative completion in Central London in 2013.”

Mark McAlister, head of Colliers International City agency: “Most strategically aware occupiers and their advisers now realise the significance of London Bridge Place as an opportunity to access City,West End, and Canary Wharf clients customers and suppliers.”
