the design alone would get it noticed anywhere in the world. Obviously that means little to the 'if it isn't the tallest, it isn't the best' types.. But who would listen to their opinion, anyway?

This will be one of the best towers in the world. However, the actual building isn't that tall. It has a very tall shard/spire on top that accounts for about 28-30% of the tower's total height. Thus, if it were in the middle of midtown Manhattan, the spire is all that would be noticeable, and the tower would make very little impact.

well it will be the first official Supertall in the european union, considering that Commerzbank Tower only has a spire that reaches 300m and moscow isn't in the european union

The Shard will be one of the finest quality skyscrapers in the world when completed. Anyway... Great pic below...

I'm pretty sure that is the start of the construction of the concrete floors.

Yes, I was thinking the same thing. They sure don't waste any time.

Even the crane on top of the Shard's core is taller

The Shard might seem stagnated for a while but once it starts growing again, it's unstoppable.

Guys, I've just had to delete 55 off-topic posts about New York and whotnot... Not impressed. Keep the Shard thread about the Shard, and any further attempts to derail will be frowned upon ( im_from_zw038 I'm looking at you )

The Shard isn't anywhere but London and it's going to look fantastic there! Other city/location speculation is irrelevant.

The angles of the sides are fantastic on this tower. I can't wait to see the 'shard' top installed.
