Can someone please tell me the name of the building nearest the Shard in the render on the previous page - it looks awfully big.

Its the render of the Thames with St Pauls on the far left and the Shard on the far right and all of the proposed new buildings in between.

Thanks.

It had a significant height reduction after noisy interventions by the heritage lobby, the Royal Park authority and neighbouring Westminster council. It eventually gained planning permission but the subsequent delay from the lengthy public inquiry pushed it into the period of global recession and it has been fairly quiet ever since. Same sort of story as with many London towers
WOW thanx...
something similar happened to the Torre Bicenenario.. mainly some height restrictions (not more than 6 floors in that zone) forced the project to be cancelled... it was going to be 380mts if i remember well...

The Shard seeking office tenants

Developers of London skyscraper the Shard have started marketing its commercial space. They are looking for an anchor tenant to occupy the building's prime grade office space, which was originally set to be occupied by Transport for London.

The Shard is located adjacent to London Bridge Station on the outskirts of the City’s financial district and is due for completion in 2012.

The total floor space is 898,000 square feet, which includes 595,000 sq ft of plush London office space. Sellar Property Group (SPG) expect the rent for the office space to be around £70 ($110) a sq ft.
Chairman of the (SPG) Irvine Sellar, expects the Shard to be fully pre-let before the official opening of the building.

"Letting will be in the mid-to late-50s (pounds per square foot) at lower levels rising to 70 (pounds) per square foot at higher levels," commented Mr Sellar.

Companies have expressed interest in renting the London office space, including a number of leading American banks.

That's the Doon Street Tower, and is far closer to the viewer than the Shard is... It's less than half the height (140m).

It's anything but tiny!

But it's kinda sweet to think of it as a little supertall right?

yes... they only lost several years (almost a decade) on planning and approving.

The construction time is insignificant compared to how much planning. Things can be slow but when they take off, they really do.
