the taller of the two, the brown Southwark Tower was demolished to make way for the Shard, it basically sits on the same footprint.

New London Bridge House (1967) designed by Richard Seifert was also demolished last year to be replaced by a new building by the Shard architect Renzo Piano, a sort of bulky glass office block that has slowly crept up to around 20 floors. The Shard and New London Bridge house are part of the same development known as London Bridge Quarter funded by the same group. It also ties in with a planned redevelopment of London Bridge Train station by Network Rail.

People are entitled to love certain styles of architecture. I too have my favourites however, I truly believe that a beautiful skyline is made up of different styles and heights from many eras. Take NYC for example. I would hate to see Guys change into something resembling "today". I think that over time London will evolve into a wonderful patch-worked skyline.

Is there any plan to make up that hospital? A new crystal fašade or something? There's no need, but it would be nice

There are plans for a re-clad at some point in the future, yes.

I cannot help but to agree with that one. Most architectural schools of thought seem to hold a particular hate of the era preceding it, but trying to "fix past mistakes" usually ends up as unnecessary replacing where should instead supplement.

This building is HUGE, yet beautiful!!!
Apparently it looks bigger in person than in pictures, as said by some of my friends.
Hopefully if things go to plan, I will go London with some of my friends this summer after my GCSE's, and visit this building

I agree totally. That is exactly why I'll always prefere New Yorks skyline over Dubai or Shanghai.

It seems the pace is slower now but I think they are already pouring concrete.
