OK. I'll take that at face value.

I notice there's a section on your site entitled 'Shard posters & artwork' which might indicate you're thinking of selling something.

Words of friendly advice:

1) be careful that doesn't take your site out of the 'non-commercial use' category allowed for by many Creative Commons licences and/or the permissions granted by the authors of photographs, etc. that you're using.

2) Especially if you are considering selling things, beware of trademark infringement.

A restaurant that opened on Tooley Street, originally calling itself 'The Shard Indian Restaurant' has been renamed 'The Shad' [Shad Thames is a nearby street] because Sellar owns a trademark on the use of 'The Shard'.

http://www.london-se1.co.uk/restaura...ian-restaurant

I think you need to make it clear as daylight that yours is an unofficial site, in no way associated with Sellar or anyone else. If there's any room for confusion you're taking a risk.

Notwithstanding that, and even if you remain a non-commercial site, you may find a letter from their lawyers on its way to you. Trademarks are bound to be defended or they become 'diluted' and cannot be protected (Hoover had this problem when their name became a verb).

P.S. I have it on good authority that they keep an eye on this thread.

No not really, my idea was to let people post their own artwork and photo's on the site.

I should probably change the word poster though, as it does indeed suggest I'm selling something.

just to add to cybertect, the tall crane being taken down was originally going to be the last crane standing, going up to remove the core crane and finish the spire before jacking itself back down. to do this though, the final crane tie would have had to be nearly 30m long. this is unheard of and i suppose for either practical or hard engineering reasons, a plan B was developed.

approx between the 55/56 floor, a cantilever structure will be built, upon which the crane that will finish the spire and remove the core crane, will be stood. this crane will then be dismantled with a derrick. this is the first time this has been attempted in britain and as a crane operator (not shard) and a bit of a geek, i can't wait to see it in action.

cybertect, forgive me for putting you on the spot, but yours is NOT the proper way of crediting photos found on Flickr. Here's how you do it according to the official guidelines:

Builder in cage held by crane on the Shard, June 11 by John Grindrod, on Flickr

The reason why Flickr shut down access to their servers a while ago was precisely because of users who hot-linked photos without giving proper attribution. Flickr now offers tools to allow for proper attribution, do use them. Cheers

Err... That's what I do if I'm posting an image from Flickr (which I do rarely and never someone else's pictures unless I've cleared it beforehand).

I'm well aware of Flickr's requirements.

They are quite separate from any copyright or licensing considerations. Flick doesn't demand a credit, just a link to the photo page.

What Tuten does on his server is his lookout, but he didn't post any pictures here.

My own photos posted on this thread are usually hosted at Photobucket or on my own server.

Unless you mean the link I provided a couple of posts ago. That's just a link. As it happens it was to the Flickr photo page for the photo I was discussing, which would meet Flick's standard if I'd posted an image, but I didn't anyhow.

Not sure what you might be talking about otherwise.

Yours confused

Rob

Edit: Now I'm not looking at the thread on my iPhone, I think you probably should have directed your comment at PortoNuts as he linked to the All Sizes - Large version of John Grindrod's photo, not the Photo Page (in Flickr speak) which is what's required by Flickr's Community Guidelines.

Apologies to everyone else for the derail.

What a comprehensive explanation, thank you.
