But I absolutely HATE the location. I know my opinion doesn't really matter, coming from a non-uk member, but I just hate to see such a historical area totally thrown off balance with this. I have the same feelings towards U.S. cities recently....the older and more historic they become, the less and less I want to see new blobs of buildings placed smack in the middle of historical areas. Maybe I'm wrong......but I can't help to feel a little sad over it :/
There were many modern buildings built in the historical area long before the Shard so if we go that way...

Well, people should realise the fact that London is not a city like Paris where historical and modern buildings are separated in different locations. In London glass buildings can be seen alongside very old buildings, here is an example and that church in front was built in 1532, so i don't think that The Shard will ruin the beauty of it's neighbour or anything like that ( sorry off topic )

I'm all about historical preservation, along with modern innovation (yeah, I rhymed). Idk, I just don't want to see a city as beautiful and historic as London be negatively impacted by something this huge. I'm not dogging the tower whatsoever....I think it's stunning. I guess I'll see the result soon . I'm sure it will look great.

This is a trademark of London. Where the old is in contrast with new. I think this makes London more consistent and makes the overall skyline (horizontal and vertical) better. I´d simply hate if all the skyscrapers are packed in Canary Wharf or some other area that is distant from Westminster or Square mile (like they did in Paris, but this would not be suitable for London). Just seeing such a beautiful building like Shard or Gherkin and St´s Paul or Tower in one cluster sends me shivers down my spine!!!

The largest concentration of historical buildings is in the West End and if you havent noticed the area (Southwark) has long been destroyed by ugly buildings (Guys Tower and numerous council estates), so if anything this tower is a massive improvement.

This building will look great when it is done and I think that will be the newest area of London for highrise and a skyline as it already has City of London and Canary Wharf and now there will be City of London, Canary Wharf and London Bridge.
Big things ahead for London.
