I personally prefer the London skyline than that of cities like New York. There are so many wonderful buildings in New York, but many of them don't stand out and you can't see them unless you walk directly in front of them. London has also done a good job of maintaining so many of it's historic buildings where other cities have sacrificed them to grow upward.

I couldn't imagine how cool mercury would look next to the shard. They are both magnificent in my opinion

I guess I'll see the result soon . I'm sure it will look great.

Don't worry, London is a giant patchwork of very beautiful architecture from the Ancient Romans to the modern times. I think that's what gives this higgle piggledy Capital it's unique charm. n_n

Does it mean that The Shard will be never the tallest building in Europe?

It will be, but for a very short amount of time. Neverthless, it will stay the tallest building in EU. As far as I´m concerned, I do not care about the height itself, for me the design matters. And if there´s going to be difference of 17 meters, who cares...

17 meters if the MCT is built without its spire, 70 meters if it is built with its spire.

^ The height of spire is not usually counted when you say the height of building. Spire is just an extra fancy thing and The Shard will still be the tallest or the first supertall in EU whatsoever.

Yes, but they could always tie a very long stick to the top of the shard as well.

Thin spire won't add more to the impression of height, and most likely there won't be a spire anyway.

but the spire looks very good on that building. fo a lot of buildings spires are just boring and seem random, but that one actually was really nice with one

I have to agree the spire design on the shard design looks very interesting.
