Update ... 19/08/2011 by Jamie Barras

The cladding reminds me of my favourite tower Bank of America in New York.

+1

It would be interesting if anyone living in London could tell us if this is the prevailing perception about the Shard among London´s citizens.

I think the man who wrote the article is a blind man! Does not he see how imprtant a supertall is for a city like London? It is not a mere symbol of power against poor people, but an opportunity to modernise the city! It is beautifull to see, and its beauty comes out just from the contrast between the old and the new! Why do the people always think that skyscrapers and beautifull projects are always a way to overcome poor people? The Shard will be an attraction for million of people coming from all over the world during olympics games!

What a bad article he wrote!

Congratulations for londiners and all the people who contributed for the construction of The Shard and the ones who support it!!!

Bye from MIlan, Italy!!

Oh....Em.....Gee!

Those reactions under that article...they are so sad and negative it's mind-boggling. It makes you wanna cry.

Why are those people so close-minded?

The writer of the article will probably get a heart attack if you show him the plans for all the skyscrapers going op in the City.

That's what I call supreme trolling! The similar kind of folk at Fox News provides deep insights into society's problems with discussions on "How Videogames Teach Our Children To Kill" etc. Because it's 100% true that it's skyscrapers and videogames (and, a bit earlier, those nasty rock-n-rollers) who provide grounds for riots and social unrest in general, not government's welfare and immigration policies. Ouch.

Indeed.

Or maybe we are all blind-folded by our obsession with heights and huge tall buildings? Not!

If we left these morons with the job of sculpting our landscape, all we'd see would be flat land as they would have a seizure if anything innovotive or ever-so-slightly different than their vanilla buildings were to be built upon the land. London has such fantastic history consisting of great achitecture, the Shard will be merely adding to that.

That journalist was just promoted a supreme troll. I hate people that keep bitching about history, I wonder if he likes an idea of restoration of Victorian era slums in western London Part of history, isn´t it? In London, old and new coexist together in symbiotics, it is great that something new arises in Southwark. As far as I´m concerned, demolish Buckingham palace with a condition of building something more architecturaly valuable instead

If I want to see beautiful old buildings I can go to Rome. If I want to see stunning modern skyscrapers I can go to Hong Kong. If I want to see both I visit London

Yeah my parents have just come home from Italy and most pictures have a crane in them and this was in small towns
