A selection of shots from the last couple of days, with the rest to be found in my Shard Gallery

Regular view from Queen Elizabeth Street

Backpack now bare of its tower crane

View up the south side from Gate 2 on St Thomas Street

St Thomas Street itself is closed due to roadworks for gas

Glazing progress by Gate 1 on the south west corner

View straight up the west side, now the new station entrance under the canopy allows you to get here

Closer view of the spire progress from Tooley Street

Seing the backlight from the sun on the backpack has been one of the highlights of my walk to the station recently

Effect of the same light on the north east corner

and from the western side

the spire in silhouette this evening

Down by the river, The Shard juxtaposed with the GLA Building

Closer view of the glazing treatment of the plant levels of the backpack

We have a great banner today. The Shard changed so much since I last visited this thread, it looks like the taller (and smaller) it becomes the faster they're completing it.

There was a 100m height limit in The City which was finally broken by Tower42, leading to a bizarre and ugly skyline of several 100m tall 1960's towers (3 since demolished: Limebank House, Draper's Gardens and 20 Fenchurch Street).

The few isolated tall buildings which did go up in the 1960's & 70's did nothing to 'sell' skyscrapers to Londoners as they were mostly brutalist, and the hundreds of 'point' blocks of council flats which became synonymous with crime and urban decay didn't help.

The turning point was One Canada Square in Canary Wharf and the subsequent expansion of the estate... followed by The Gherkin. Londoners and most importantly planning departments warmed to high-quality tall buildings, so we've now got our Shard, Heron, Strata soon to be joined by more.

Well, I'm seeing an image of Ateh Lake at the top of the page.

But if you click on it [http://xl.skyscrapercity.com/?page=banner] you get this image of London from Graham Edensounds on Flickr

http://www.flickr.com/photos/edensou...3053/lightbox/

Tried logging out and using a different browser. No change.

Maybe we in the UK have to wait till midnight for it to appear?

You can see my house from there - it's part of one of those pixels toward the top right
