Is there any known reason the spire is delaying so long?

Two really terrific photos!! Although Paris remains my favourite city in the world (and I've been to most of the majors) I think London overall is getting better modern buildings, hope they don't spoil it and go all freaky.

Well, whichever finishes first will be, albeit temporarily for the Shard.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tallest...lest_buildings

I think we both know which that will be.

I'd rather have the smaller Shard. Stunning in all the pictures above, cannot wait until its finished.

Yup, basically they have a mini-crane on top of the Shard just now, which is helping to install the glass on the sides of the building, in order to get it all finished in time. Having the spire there would just get in the way - having the crane sitting on the top, on a flat platform, gives it 360-degree access and makes the glass installation much more efficient. Once the glass has been installed on the existing steelwork, the spire will be put in place.

The Shard is only ~286m at the moment - it's the City of Capitals that the Mercury City Tower has just overtaken, not the Shard.

We're all members of the same board - it's not like strange people are "coming over" from a rival site. The MCT is obviously contesting the Shard's status as the tallest building on a continent - can you honestly say you are surprised there is thus some contention between their respective fans on a forum dedicated to skyscraper nerddom? I like both buildings and I have been following this "race" closely. I'd enjoy seeing the Shard snag the title however briefly because it makes for a fun fact. In the end, though, the buildings will be as tall as they are intended to be, and we all know MCT will be taller - in the mean time, I suggest you stop letting other people's comments get you all riled up for no reason.

Just wait for the glass to see the spire rise.
