You can't demolish a public hospital just because you find it ugly. Besides, it will get a new cladding pretty soon.

It's not going to get demolished unfortunately, but I heard that the reclad is due to start this month.

I walked by the Shard this past weekend during my mini-trip to London. My god it is huge.

On a side note, getting out of London Bridge station and finding a good spot to take a photo of the Shard is a heck-of-a time. At least for me it was.

Annoyingly, this is what is planned:

If you compare the two proposals which are linked in the article the one that seems to have got the go ahead looks, well, even uglier than whats there already....

Guy-z.
It doesn't matter what kind of reclad they do on the Guy's, it just must be reclad.

The framing at the top almost looks like one of those rocket gantries at Cape Canaveral...very hi-tech looking.

Well, demolition would be the best thing for it, you just have to consider its a NHS hospital so the cheaper option has to be the one put forward (a reclad)

But it's there to provide contrast. It makes The Shard look 20% more awesome.

I don't think it's any worse looking than tall buildings in any other large City. The fact that it stands on its own with until now little around it makes it stand out more.
