Come on... hurry up and start building, please. This will be one of the top three building projects globally along with WTC & Al Burj (assuming that gets going any time soon). That picture with the City in the foreground and Shard behind shows London in full on brooding character. I love it!

Sorry, but 'to be one of the top three building projects globally' this skyscraper should be at least 2 times taller.

Piano these years is concentrating a lot on details, as you can see in the NYT Tower and it's, well, photocopy soon to be done in Torino. Not great shapes, but an attention to details that makes them really particular. This one also has a great design!

Because the taller a building is, the better its design? Interesting logic you have there.

A building doesn't have to be huge to be magnificent. It is a mixture of different things, and the Shard ticks a lot of boxes. Look at the Gherkin. I'd say it's better than most of supertalls going up in Dubai, despite being 'only' 180m tall.

This never fails to get me angry. Explain why it should be taller? To satify a ***** complex, an ego complex? London is one of the if not the greatest cities on the planet, it does not need to build scrapers the on a dubai scale. Height is not in itself vital, quality and location location location is.

It is exactly the height it should be, and anything twice the height would look ridiculous.

The BBC reported this morning that the developers will go ahead with the tower, regardless of current economic conditions. It's on schedule to be completed a few weeks before the Olympics.

I agree, and its definitely one of the best projects right now. London will look fantastic in 2012 when this and other projects are completed.
