Why does the glas at the very top also have blinds? Those red things are the blinds, right? Is it just for continuity?

Yep.

They're not needed on any of the glazing wings either. Can you imagine what it would look like if they stopped where they weren't needed for shading?

I've been lurking for a few weeks but wanted to say "Hi". I work on Tooley Street and here's the view from my desk (taken this morning on my phone)...

Wanted to say thanks for all the photos and info on The Shard.

I do have a question though... does anyone know if Discovery Channel or any production company is putting together a "Mega Structures" style documentary on The Shard?

Cheers

Dee

When I first went to London when I was younger me and my mum walked into the lobby and out again. Got some rather bemused looks from the receptionist, but at least I got to say I'd been in it

Congradulations to London... this tower is simply stunning, its futuristic look makes it seem like it comes from a space opera universe like Mass Effect or Star wars.

Amazing design, a true gem!

It is amazing how some people react. The receptionist probably didn't have a clue that the building was special. "WHAT are those people looking at, it's just a building, duh". It's like when I checked into a hotel next to an airport, I asked for a room that faces the runway. The receptionist looked confused, then had to get a map of the hotel layout and guess which rooms faced that direction! Like no one has EVER asked before...

Then I went back to the hotel a month later, same girl, same confused look, same map.

Having previously had, er, "issues" with 30 SMA Security telling me that I wasn't permitted to photograph the building *from the public footpath* (acknowledged that it was when I pointed this out) and threatening to call the police even if I did clear off, I didn't feel like chancing my luck.

Channel 4 has been filming throughout.

Where did you get that idea from?

So many people on here recently thought the final spire section would be the tallest even though its been said many times in the last few pages that it wouldnt.

Renders have been posted on here many many times clearly showing the spires having roughly the same height yet people still think the south spire would be the tallest....it made me laugh.

Anyway no big deal....just a personal annoyance lol!

What a building this has turned out to be. Im proud to have followed its progress everyday form demo of the old southwark towers to external completion of this magnificent building.

i'm surprised to not be so dazzled by the top of the tower...

Is it because the final cladding color for the top isn't ready yet?
