Not sure if it really is topped out. I think there is room for another shard to complete it.

Looks like the dismantling of the tower crane has begun. I only had one of my shorter lenses with me, so I had to crop quite heavily.

From the Elephant & Castle

A bit closer on Tower Bridge Road, but not such a good angle.

the word 'shard' is hardly tacky

But this thread is about the "Shard" so will conclude that I think it is one of the more interesting and better looking new supertalls being built at the moment and will become a real London landmark,no doubt about that. More elegant than No. 1 World Trade Centre New York which has too much bulk.
The shard is great, but so is the wtc1, elegant as hell and a lot more functional than the shard by the time it gets near the top.

A few pics wot I took at lunch time today.

Just off Weston Street

and closer in

South side glass looking shiny

Shortly after there was some weird s**t light happening. Dark clouds directly above and to the south, but a fair sized break in the clouds to the north was allowing light to reflect back off their sides, reversing the normal expectation this side of the equator that daylight comes from the south.

Then we got a small window of sunlight peeking through from the south and the south side of the Shard was picked out by the bright clouds in reflection like a bright silver scalpel blade.

Everything went a bit Frank Miller for a few minutes

How the changing light affects the spire. The next two photos were taken barely half a minute apart.

Cranes, cranes, cranes. Seem to be the theme of the day

North and East sides this evening

P.S. I can't wait for someone to clean off that black mark on the north side. I keep thinking that I've got dust on my slides

Just wanted to jump in here and say you guys are blessed with some great photographers here . The shard looks stunning in practically any weather condition I've seen and I'm sure will become a landmark if it isn't already. Definitely on my list to see should I ever venture across the pond, haha.
